Emmanuel Gyamfi plays down fatigue concerns ahead of Super Clash

Asante Kotoko rising star Emmanuel Gyamfi has played down claims that his consistent surge on the flanks in the Ghana Premier League games is taking a toll on his performance.

The 23-year-old has been in top form for the Porcupine Warriors this season, picking four Man of the Match awards and being involved 57 per cent of the club's total goals scored.

However, in their 1-0 victory over Wafa on Wednesday, Gyamfi was consistently seen struggling with his usual overlapping as well as drinking a lot of water, especially in the first- half. But he says it was a strategy to cool down and study the playing pattern of the visitors.

"I did my best for Kotoko against Wafa, created a lot of chances. Although, the chances didn't result into goals but I'm not exhausted," Gyamfi told Goal.

"At a point in the first-half of the game, I had to relax and study Wafa's game to give my best because I was marked by two players. It doesn't mean I was exhausted or getting tired after seven games into the season.

"I'm still physically fit and can play 90 minutes throughout the season unless I'm injured," he added.

Kotoko will be heading to Accra on Sunday to lock horns with rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash. Gyamfi says he is ready for the battle.

"I'm ready for the game against Hearts in Accra. Things will hopefully work to perfection against the Phobians because we are poised for that particular game and need to continue picking points to be able to win the league title at the end."

Kotoko are second on the log, tied on 17 points with leaders Aduana Stars and eight points above Hearts.
