The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has organized a sensitization workshop for journalists in social protection in Kumasi.

The workshop aimed to bring the media on board to curate content on social protection that will benefit the vulnerable.

Over the years, the Ministry has taken proactive measures to strengthen social protection measures, liaising with major stakeholders to ensure the vulnerable and poor are well protected.

During the workshop, journalists were taken through presentations from the Ghana National Household Registry (GNHR), the Ghana School Feeding Programme, and Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP). These departments, all under the gender ministry, engaged journalists on their mandates, operations, successes, and challenges.

A plenary discussion followed the workshop, where participants brainstormed ways to ensure effective social protection systems in the country.

Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, Dr. Richard Adjetey, Head of GNHR, revealed that GNHR is creating a social registry that will house all vulnerable groups in Ghana.

This registry will provide accurate data for social protection platforms like LEAP, the Ghana School Feeding Programme, and the National Health Insurance Scheme, enabling timely access to communities with extreme poverty levels.
