Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Joseph Yammin has described as hypocritical calls by various stakeholders for the disbandment of vigilante groups in the country, picking out the ‘NPP’ Clergy and the Inspector General of Police.
He singled out pastors and media houses who are leading the calls as the worse hypocrites observing that they are also members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and therefore doing its bidding, MyNewsGh.com reports.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Pure FM, the former Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC wondered why same persons are not calling for the disbandment of similar groups within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) but only focusing their lenses on the NDC.
“All pastors calling for the disbandment of vigilante groups are hypocrites. Anyone who makes such a call is a shamed NPP member. Media houses waging a war against the existence of vigilante groups are equally hypocrites because this issue they are discussing now should have been discussed long time ago. What makes them hypocrites is the fact they endorse the actions of these groups if they are within the NPP and do the reverse if it is within the NDC”, he disclosed.
Mr. Yammin it would be recalled, earlier attacked the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu describing him as the lead hypocrite over his calls for the disbandment of vigilante groups in the country.
“The IGP is a hypocrite to ask that vigilante groups should be disbanded. When the president gave him an order that when certain persons go beyond their mandate they should be arrested, how many has he arrested”, he asked.
According to him, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu does not really understand the meaning of vigilante and that if he did, he would not be asking for such groups to be scrapped from the system.
“What is his explanation of a vigilante? Those asking for the disbandment of vigilante groups are all hypocrites because at each party event, the security are always asking for details of our internal security. The trend that should be a source of concern is with the illegalities”, he added.
