King A. Wellington, a Communications Specialist of the Energy Ministry, has been nominated for the Rising Star (Individual) Award by the awarding panel of the Ghana Energy Awards 2018.
The award ceremony is slated for Friday, November 30, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
The Ghana Energy Awards aims to recognise the efforts, innovation and excellence within the energy sector and to celebrate the tremendous work of the players competing under various categories of the awards.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, an elated Mr Wellington expressed his profound joy over the nomination.
He ascribed his success to his bosses, colleagues and other officers he worked with at the Energy Ministry.
He was full of gratitude to the Almighty God for how far he had brought him.
Mr Wellington joined the Ministry of Energy as a young National Service Personnel in 2010 and gradually climbed the corporate ladder to Head the Communications Unit.
He thus became the youngest member of Management.
Throughout his career in the Energy Sector, he has advised Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and high-rank officials from top energy institutions (both power and petroleum) on how to manage their reputation and communications.
He has developed and implemented several communications strategies, communicated numerous government energy sector policies and drafted uncountable speeches for government officials throughout his career.
He has restructured an entire communications department for key energy sector institutions.
He has trained top executives in the energy sector including Ministers and CEOs on public speaking, conducting media interview, presentation skills and how to use strategic communications to increase their bottom line.
His numerous publications on strategic communications and reputation managed as well as his ability to sway London School of Public Relations (LSPR) to set up its first African operations in Ghana clearly shows a young man with a purpose.
“He has being a source of inspiration to many young people”, one of Mr Wellingtons friends, Albert Cephas Tetteh, stated with a smile during an interview with Ghana News Agency.
Mr Wellington graduated with Distinction during his Master's Degree study in the United Kingdom and worked with one of the largest Oil and Gas companies in the world, SHELL in Aberdeen UK.
Mr Wellington is a multi-skilled individual with knowledge in Strategic Communications, Reputation Management, Business Management, Information Technology, Multimedia and Web Design Technology, Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation and Entrepreneurship.
He has a diverse working experience because he had worked in Ghana and UK as well as in various industries including Mining, Energy, Oil and Gas, Technology and Entertainment.
In addition to his Master's Degree, Mr Wellington also holds other professional certificates such as Prince2 2017 Foundation Certificate - Project Management, AXELOS Global Best Practice - UK; Persuasive Communication, Purdue University, Indiana - USA; Digital Marketing, University of Southampton, UK; Introduction to Journalism, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Scotland, and UK.
