Energy sector cash for Mahama’s family, friends - NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of exploiting the energy sector for the personal gain of the family of President John Mahama and cronies.

“The NDC sees energy as a money-making pyramid scheme for friends and family of the president,” NPP Policy Advisor Boakye Agyarko has alleged.

He made these allegation at a news conference held at the NPP headquarters in Accra, while addressing issues concerning the NPP’s plans for the energy sector.

According to him, the vision of the NPP on the other hand is to “develop a modern, diversified, efficient, and financially sustainable energy economy that will ensure that all Ghanaians and the industry have access to reliable, adequate, affordable, and environmentally sustainable supply of energy to meet needs”.

For him, there was a need for an efficient energy planning to ensure a diversified energy mix. This, he said, the NPP would do through competitive tendering in order to achieve value for money at lower tariffs.

He said unlike the NDC, the NPP would not “cancel a tender process to supply power to Karpower and offer the contract to a company close to the president and at a cost close to three times more than what was competitively offered”.

For him, “The era of sole-sourcing under President Mahama will be a thing of the past under a Nana Akufo-Addo-led NPP government.”
