Enforce law on iodated salt - Medical Officer

Tamale (Northern Region) 15 Oct. '98 Dr Akwasi Agyeman, a senior medical officer in-charge of public health, has stressed the need for a multi-sectorial approach to enforcing the law on consumption of iodated salt if the national target of eliminating iodine deficiency disorders by the year 2000 is to be achieved.

He called for an effective national effort to monitor the production, distribution and consumption of the salt in line with the Food and Drugs Law of 1996 and the Universal Salt Iodination Treaty.

Dr Agyeman made the call in Tamale on Tuesday when he opened a training workshop organised by the Ministry of Health to update the skills of iodated salt monitoring agents in the Northern Region. GRi
