The President of the Ghana Bar Association, GBA, Mr. Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has emphasized the need for the government and management of the judiciary to enhance the safety of judges at all levels.

Speaking at the remembrance service for the Martyrs of the Rule of Law in Accra, he expressed concern about the lack of necessary weapons for court warrant officers.

He shared the story of Justice Senyo Deamefe at the Court of Appeal, who advocated for the installation of CCTV cameras in courts to monitor criminals and other suspicious individuals.

Mr. Boafo stated that it was crucial for the government and judiciary management to address this issue seriously.

"A safe and secure judiciary is essential to ensure that our judges, magistrates, and court staff can work and fulfill their duties without fear or favor, upholding the rule of law."

He also emphasized the importance of earning from tragic events in Kenya and addressing threats, intimidation, violence, and vigilantism to maintain peace, stability, and democratic and economic development in Ghana.

Mr. Acheampong assured Ghanaian judges of the GBA's unwavering support and respect, urging them to uphold the rule of law with integrity and professionalism.

“Please continue to remain resolute and fearless in the discharge of judicial oath of doing justice to all manner of persons without fear or favour, or affection or ill will and with integrity, and professionalism.”

He advised judges to be fair, avoid bias and improper influence, and ensure that the constitution and laws of the country are upheld without fear or favor.

The GBA also encouraged the public to be resolute, fearless, and vocal in defending the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary to promote economic well-being and development.
