Enrol children in schools - District Education Director

Begoro (E/R), Dec 20, GNA - The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Mr Stephen Peter-Andoh, has called for an intensive programme to sensitise parents on the need to enrol their children in school. Speaking at a meeting with heads of Basic Schools at Begoro, to review their activities for the term, he expressed concern about the low level of enrolment in rural areas.

He noted that the Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) was so low that the district would continue to face shortage of teachers until enrolment figures improved.

Mr Peter-Andoh explained that GES would not supply the full complement of six teachers per primary school to schools with an enrolment of 30 pupils from P1 - P6, since the policy on Pupil Teacher Ration was one teacher to 33 pupils.

He urged parents to send their children to school for to enable the government supply teachers and the GES had decentralised the publication of textbooks to the district to enable every school procure sufficient teaching and learning materials.

Mr Peter-Andoh asked Head-teachers to utilise the limited resources in schools to produce good results.

The Chairman of the District Head teachers Association, Mr Daniel Ahunu, appealed to GES to supply schools with sufficient logistics to enhance effective teaching and learning.
