Ensure vigilance at polling centres - Obimpeh

Kumasi, July 21, GNA - Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to the party's activists to be more vigilant at the polling centres on the voting day in the December general elections to avoid rigging. He reminded them that elections were either won or lost at those centres and therefore any laxity and half-hearted approach could be disastrous to the party and wreck its chances of victory.

Mr Obimpeh was addressing a day's seminar for NDC constituency youth organisers and their deputies in the Ashanti Region.

It was attended by more than 60 participants and was designed to help fashion out effective campaign strategies to broaden the support base of the party and prevent cheating during the polls.

Mr Obimpeh told them that they had a duty to see to it that only loyal, committed and dedicated members of the party were appointed in their areas as agents.

He was particularly disappointed with the way some of the party's agents went about their duties during the recent voters registration and photo-taking exercise in the region.

"Some of them for absolutely no reason just abandoned the very centres they were supposed to closely follow. We certainly cannot afford a repetition of that experience", the regional youth organiser added.

He called for hard work among all the party's supporters, saying, they should carry the campaign message of the NDC across to the people and win them over.

"Let us accept that victory in the December elections will not come on a silver platter. We must really work for it", he said.
