Envoys present credentials to President Kufuor

Three Ambassadors and a High Commissioner accredited to Ghana on Thursday, presented their Letters of Credence to President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.

They were; Mr Jab El-Hassan, Ambassador of Lebanon; Mr Gregorg Walinski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland and Mr Kim Pyong Gi, Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea based in Abuja, Nigeria. The High Commissioner was Mr Momodou Kebba Jallow of the Gambia also based in Abuja, Nigeria.

President Kufuor asked them to improve on the performance of their predecessors and endeavour to strengthen the cordial relationship that had existed between Ghana and their countries.
They pledged to continue with the work of their predecessors to strengthen the relationship between their countries and Ghana.
The Ambassadors and the High Commissioner commended President Kufuor for his role as the Chairman of ECOWAS in the restoration of peace and stability within the West African Sub-Region.

Present was Mr Akwasi Osei Adjei, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Ghana to strengthen relations with Lebanon to promote peace

Accra, Nov.27, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday said the relationship between Ghana and Lebanon would be strengthened to promote peace in the Middle East.
He said Ghana had supported the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) with troops that had excelled in their operations and this would continue until peace was restored in the area.
President Kufuor made the call when Mr Jab El-Hassan, Ambassador of Lebanon in Ghana, presented his credentials at the Castle, Osu.
Mr El-Hassan pledged to promote and strengthen the friendship between both countries.
He said Ghana had been very generous to Lebanese and the Lebanese Community that had become an integral part of the economic and social life in Ghana.
The Ambassador expressed appreciation to Ghana for her continuous contribution of troops to UNIFIL and commended President Kufuor for his role in maintaining peace within the West African Sub-Region.

Peace On Korean Peninsula Important To Africa - Kufuor

President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday called for peace and stability within the Korean Peninsula. He said the situation within the peninsula was complex and stressed the need for the restoration of peace in order that African countries that had relationships with both countries could benefit from its strategic position.

President Kufuor made the call when Mr Kim Pyong Gi, Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Ghana but based in Abuja, Nigeria presented his Letters of Credence at the Castle, Osu.

He said the interest of the people on the Peninsular and humanity should over-ride whatever considerations to facilitate disarmament and peace in the area.

"It is our wish that the people will make life easier for humanity. Ghana wants the United Nations to resolve the issue for a better global village", he said.

Mr Gi said Ghana was one of the first African countries to establish diplomatic relationship with the DPRK and the achievement made so far had been commendable.
