A group calling itself Brong Ahafo Youth Wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated without any equivocation that the recent attack on Hon. Eric Opoku at his residence was perpetrated by his own NDC youth thugs but not NPP youth.

It would be recalled that the residence of Mr. Eric Opoku, a former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and a sitting MP for the Asunafo South Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region, was attacked on Christmas morning, December 23, 2017 by unknown assailants when the MP was holding series of engagements and meetings with his constituents.

After the incident, the opposition NDC accused the NPP youth thugs of attacking the former Regional Minister.

But in a press statement issued on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 and signed by its Leader, Kwame Baffoe alias Abronye DC indicated that it was Hon. Eric Opoku's youth thugs whom he deployed to brutalise innocent people in the Region at a time he, Hon. Eric Opoku was a Regional Minister.

The Abronye DC also stated that Hon. Eric Opoku should blame himself for his own attack but not point accusing fingers at the NPP youth in the Region.

According to him, "It must be noted that, Hon. Eric Opoku during his tenure as regional minister, recruited Atta Kofi, Salifu, Adidas, Kwasi Adu, Kwabena Noah, Masahudu Teacher, Zack Fiter, Mahi, Jato, Walawalah, Danjima, Wrahub, Mumin, Issah, Escoba, Atida, Wayomi, Seidu Busanga and Toffic into the assembly as employees and were subsequently placed on a payroll receiving salaries from government funds".

The Maverick Youth Organiser also added, "After Hon Eric Opoku's appointment was terminated due to the change of government, the above NDC youth thugs whose names were on the assembly's payroll were immediately ejected by the DCE".

He noted that the above mentioned names are notorious thugs of the NDC who were contracted by the regional minister to chastise, admonish and castigate NPP folks.

"The former Regional Minister promised to pay these NDC youth thugs GHC600.00 each every month because their names had been ejected from the Assembly's payroll by the current DCE of the Asunafo south district and also for them to continue to molest the NPP folks.

Hon Eric Opoku subsequently failed to fulfil his obligations of the contract by not paying the money to them", he revealed.

He also stated in the statement that the youth of NPP in the Region have no hands in the incident not guilty of any offence.

The group therefore stated, "We furthermore, wish to inform, notify and apprise the police to investigate, probe, explore and scrutinize these allegations duly, aptly and satisfactorily"
