Minister for Information, Mustapha Hamid, has urged the general public to eschew intolerance towards journalists and appreciate them.
Speaking with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive as the World marks Press Day, Mustapha Hamid argued that over the years, media houses as well as journalists have been attacked for publishing or airing certain stories.
According to him, these situations do not strengthen the nation’s democracy, adding that Ghana’s media influence is acknowledged by people elsewhere.
He however urged journalists to make investigations the key ingredient in their reportage. He stated that journalists should disassociate themselves from publishing and airing stories which lack the necessary information.
“There are some newspapers in the country that have never named their sources; always attributing stories to anonymous sources. This does not help grow the press freedom,” he concluded.
