Following a premix fuel explosion at Ngiyasia, a community in the Essikado-Ketan constituency, where two people were reportedly killed, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Charles Bissue, has commiserated with the victims.
In a post shared via his social media pages, the New Patriotic Party candidate for the 2024 general elections said he, together with the sitting Member of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, and others, made a donation to the affected persons.
This was during a tour of the affected areas after the explosion.
"Accompanied by the Regional and Metro Directors of the National Disaster Management Authority, and the Chief and Elders of Ngyiresia, I visited victims of the fire accident that occurred yesterday at the landing site. More than a dozen people including children have suffered various degrees of burns and other injuries.
"In consultation with the MP for Essikado-Ketan Joe Ghartey and the Mayor for Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mumim Issah, some funds have been mobilised to support the medical needs of the affected persons," he wrote.
Charles Bissue also added that he and the other leaders are doing everything within their power to ensure that further support is brought to the victims of the explosion.
He also provided details about what may have led to the explosion.
"The families have also been assured of support, while investigations are concluded into the accident. Preliminary assessment points to some safety lapses with carting barrels of premix fuel from the main road to the landing site,"| he added.
The NPP Essikado-Ketan constituency parliamentary candidate, Charles Bissue, further urged the appropriate authorities to intensify education among the public on such hazardous substances.
"I have urged NADMO and all relevant stakeholders to as a matter of urgency intensify their education and training of fisherfolks in the handling of hazardous and combustible substances. We pray the lessons guide our future actions and preventive measures taken to avert their recurrence," he wrote.
According to the Assembly Member for Ngyirasia-Mpasem, Gabriel Ato Mensah, the two deceased victims, Joseph Adom, 15 years, and Justice Dadzie, 7 years were receiving treatment at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi when they succumbed to their injuries.
