The United Nations Eminent Peace Ambassador, Dr. Samuel Ben Owusu, has urged the government to establish an Elections Emergency Fund to support victims of election-related conflicts and violence.

This call to action was made during a Peace Walk with the Ga Mantse Peace Walk Campaign 2025 by the GaDangme Council of Asafoitsemei and Asafoinyemei, on December 5, 2024.

The walk took place from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly through the major Makola Business Center.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Samuel Ben Owusu emphasised, "the need for peaceful elections and support for those affected by violence.

"The proposed Elections Emergency Fund would provide vital support to victims of election-related violence, helping to alleviate their suffering and promote national healing."

This initiative aligns with Dr. Owusu's ongoing peace campaigns, including the Peace Power Initiative, which aims to promote peace and tolerance among the youth.

He proposed the following as key features of the proposed fund:

- Emergency Financial Support: Providing immediate financial assistance to victims of election-related violence.

- Medical and Psychological Support: Offering medical and psychological support to those affected by violence.

- Rehabilitation and Reintegration: Supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of victims into their communities.

Dr. Ben Owusu also stated that "By establishing the Elections Emergency Fund, the government can demonstrate its commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of its citizens, even in the face of electoral violence."

As a renowned advocate for peace, he has consistently promoted peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution.
