Winneba (C/R), April 25, GNA - The Chief Patron of the Windy International Youth Foundation (WIYF), Mr. Samuel K. Tuffour, has suggested to District, Municipal and Metropolitan assemblies to establish recycling plants to resolve the problem of refuse confronting them.
He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the launch of a 100-million-cedi special environmental sanitation fund as part of this year's Global Youth Service Day celebration at Winneba on Friday. The fund would be used to purchase tools to facilitate environmental cleanliness and hygiene sensitisation programmes Mr. Tuffour said the establishment of recycling plants would also serve as a source of revenue for the assemblies and fetch foreign exchange for them.
Other speakers at the launch were, Mr. K. Ashalley-Djan, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director for Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Mr. Emmanuel Sodja Martey, Co-ordinator of the Youth Council and Mr. Francis Ekow Dughan, National Disaster Management Organisation NADMO District Co-ordinator.
They called on the youth to lead decent lifestyles to promote leadership qualities that would ensure community development. They urged them to be disciplined, God-fearing and to lead lives would protect them from the deadly HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases as well as other practices inimical to their growth.
Mr. Joseph Owusu-Kwarteng, Public Relations Officer of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme, took the youth through the various aspects of the scheme and asked them to help in educating their relatives and parents to embrace it to enjoy quality health services.
Members of the association supported by members of other youth organizations and officials of the district assembly embarked on a massive clean up exercise to keep the town tidy. A spokesman for the organisation thanked the district assembly for supplying them with tools for the exercise and pledged their determination to make the exercise a regular affair.
