Ho, Feb. 18, GNA- "The Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC) is battle ready for work", as 77 pioneer students of the Volta Region's premier University begin their academic work at the University on Monday 25 February 2008. An elated Mr Walter Blege, President of the University College sounded the battle cry at the first opening church service of the College in Ho on Sunday.
"Several histories are being written today", he said. Couching the structural beginnings of the University in the biblical creation story, Mr Blege said from the beginning everything about the University was void and formless, things were "nyamaa"( in a confuse state) and spaces had to be "created and re-created in many ways, to get a University with one of the environmental settings you can think of".
"EPUC, University of excellence! Premier University! in the Volta region is officially opened for work", Mr Blege said to the prolonged applause of a fairly large congregation of the clergy and members of the Church as well as Chiefs, the students and staff of the University, all of whom danced to gospel music of victory. In a sermon, on the theme, "effecting a change for the better" the Right Reverend Dr Livingstone Buama, Moderator of the E.P. Church said, "a difficult assignment is not an impossible assignment, extraordinary things are done by ordinary people". He said above the sky should be the height, which all stakeholders should push the University.
Rt. Rev. Dr Buama said the destiny of the University was in the hands of all who crave for such an institution in the region, because the E.P. Church only spearheaded its establishment. He said it was the collective responsibility of all to market, patronize and support the university to attain the greater heights envisaged.
Mr Walter Buami, Registrar of the University College told newsmen that 28 students were admitted to read for BSC (Hons) Administration, Finance and Accounting option, 38 for BSC (Hons) Administration Marketing option, five for BSC (Hons), Agribusiness and six for BA. (Hons), Pastoral Ministry and Church Management.
