Former Executive Secretary to the Inter Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue has stated that he is prepared to wait on the Special Prosecutor for even ten years and more if that is how long it will take for him to finish investigations on him.
He observed that his patience hinges on the fact that “the SP will find nothing incriminating against me because I served as the Executive Secretary with all the good intentions to ensure that the vision of President Nana Addo to sanitize the small scale mining sector is realized”.
“You will recall that the President said he was ready to give up his presidency to ensure the small scale mining sector is sanitized. The President might have seen something in me to have given me that enormous duty to lead in that cleansing campaign. So I knew very well what was at stake when I took the position. Go and talk to those I worked with at the IMCIM. Nothing was left to chance in all our dealings, irrespective of who you were”.
Mr. Bissue was captured in an investigative piece by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas allegedly taking monies to influence the acquisition of mining leases.
He has since stepped aside from the IMCIM for investigation to be conducted.
Even though the police CID cleared him of any wrongdoing, the Office of the Special Prosecutor is yet to finish with its investigation on him.
Speaking to 3news.com on the sidelines of the vetting of Parliamentary aspirants for the NPP in the Western Region, Mr. Bissue maintained his innocence, stressing “my hands are clean”.
“I’ve done no wrong,” he insisted.
“I insist. I will never take money. Even if the case is referred to the FBI, nothing incriminating will be found. I’m sounding this confidence because I know how I went about my duties in that office. And, as I said earlier, the workers at the IMCIM can best tell you how I carried myself there. And the Lord is my witness.”
