The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has hinted at a proposal to expand the voting rights to all card-bearing members of the NPP in all internal elections.
Wontumi has thus, emphasized the necessity of broadening the current delegates' album to encompass every individual holding a party card.
He disclosed that discussions with the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, have already taken place, indicating a willingness within the party leadership to entertain this reform.
“To be sincere, I am going to fight. I have spoken with the General Secretary and he agrees with me, that every card-bearing member of our party be allowed to vote in all our internal elections.
“He has accepted and I know there are a lot of people in our party who also support this.
“…What stops card-bearing members of the NPP from voting to decide who becomes their parliamentary candidate; who becomes a member of the constituency or national executive?" 3news.com quoted him to have said in an interview on Wontumi radio.
His proposal comes in response to longstanding concerns about the exclusion of certain party members from the delegates' list, which has led to defections from the party.
