The death of his mother took a toll on his education, as she would have pushed for him to be educated.

Realizing that his pursuit to become an athlete would never be achieved, he opted for an alternative, which was to come to Accra.

In this episode of Everyday People, GhanaWeb reporter Eugenia Diabah had a conversation with Kwame Isaac, a yogurt seller.

Isaac's arrival in Accra from Kumasi, where he hailed from, led him to engage in selling shoes.

Selling shoes earned him enough profit, the young man said, but an unfortunate incident occurred, which is why he had to switch to selling yogurt to survive.

“When I came to Accra, I used to sell shoes somewhere around Madina, but some authorities evicted us from the place. They wanted to use that place as a station; that's why we were asked to leave. I had to look for a plan B; that's why I am selling yogurt. I’m hoping to raise enough money from this business so I can go back to my old job.

“Selling shoes, I would say, is better than this job. I made a lot of profit from that business; that's why I'm fighting to earn money and start selling shoes again. I bought land with the profit I made from my previous occupation. I have even started building on it,” he said.

Isaac told our reporter he wanted to become an athlete, but the sudden death of his mother changed his life.

“I lost my mother at an early age, so my siblings and I had no one to support our schooling. Although my father was around, it would have been my mother who would have pushed hard to ensure that my siblings and I went to school. Also, my father didn’t have enough money because he spent his money on medication and hospital bills while my mother was sick. Taking care of seven children wasn’t an easy task for him.

"I wanted to be an athlete growing up. I loved to run and play football. After completing JHS, I feared money would become a hindrance if I chased my dream, so I quit fighting and decided to follow a different path,” he told GhanaWeb.

Although Isaac has had some ups and downs in his struggle to become successful, he has at least bought land and started building his house.
