Ewe Union –Hamburg elect New Executive Members

The Ewe Union –Hamburg has held free and fair election to elect New Executive Members to run the affairs of the Union in Hamburg City of Germany over the weekend.

The elected Executive Members are: Torgbui Philip Awanyoh, who was elected the Chairman and Mr. Armstrong Kelly as the Vice.

Mr. Chris Segbawu and Madam Esther Semador both retained their positions as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Others are; Mr. Ashietey Zigah was elected to take the office of welfare. The position of Women organizer went to Madam Pat Govina and would be assisted by Madam Pat Ocloo.

Mr. Dameshie Brown, one of the founding Members since the formation of the union in 1990, was conferred as an honorary Patron and chief Adviser to the Union.

The council of Elders to support the union in terms of decision making are; Mr. Mich Lawe and Mr. Lawrence Srabby.

The election was however held in accordance with the constitution of the Union which stipulates that, general election shall be held after Executives' three years tenure of office.

In a colorful handing-over ceremony held at the fore-court of Rothenburgsort community center in Hamburg over the weekend, the out-going Chairman of the Union Mr. Jerry Addo; in a short but impressive thanks-giving speech, congratulated the newly-elected Executives and thanked all the Union Members for their support and dedication during the reign of his office.

He made mention of Benevolent achievements during his tenure of office which include: sending of Hospital equipment like Beds and mattresses etc. to the St. Anthony's Hospital at Dzodze and Set of technical Drawings and equipment to Anlo Technical Institute all in the Volta Region respectively.

In an acceptance speech after the swearing in, the oath of allegiance, the newly Chairman-elect; Torgbui Philip Awanyoh thanked the union Members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work in collaboration with all the Members for the betterment of the Union.

According to the elected Executives, their instant priority is to embark on intensive programs with the view to attracting many Members into the union.Such programs include; introduction of Ewe cultural educative programs via the internet Radios in Hamburg and worldwide; Ewe Cultural Kente Festivals and many more.

Those present at the ceremony include: Daavi Essi Akabutu, Daavi Mary Kelly, Daavi Josephine Torgbui, Amega John Gyameshie, Efo Paul Mensah Dziwornu, Apetor Dick Dabla and others.

On behalf of the Union Members, the Vice-Chairman Mr. Amstrong Kelly and Women organizer Madam Pat Govina thanked the Chairman-elect and gave him few words of advice.
