The former Chief Executive OF Ghana Airways E.L.Quartey Jnr has described as mischievous and uninformed, accusations being leveled against his administration by a section of opinion leaders in the country who he claims want to sweep their backs clean in relation to their relationship with the besieged airline.
He has therefore promised the Network Herald, a catalogue of names of individuals and institutions, whose covet and overt actions left the nation?s airline in its present state.
Mr. Quartey whose position was engineered from ?within? was reacting to an Accra daily publication ? Sordid Deals Exposed? referring to concessionary tickets apparently issued to certain high-ranking persons at the expense of the airline.
He pointed out that most of the tickets were fully paid for and produced copies of receipts for travel for Mr. Ato Ahwoi and Miss Sherry Ayittey for Johannesburg as well as extracts from Quartey?s remuneration statement of account indicating that ticket values for certain persons enjoying discounted tickets be deducted from his salary.
A statement from his lawyers also pointed out that Mr. Selby whose name appeared in the publication was a past board member of the airline. The statement also said various groups of people benefited from the exercise including statesmen and their families, journalists promoting national development, and the critically sick.
They further claim that other officials of the airline so abused a chief executive?s exclusive privilege that he ordered an audit and demanded a publication of the report for the people of Ghana to determine those who really usurped their authority as well as their beneficiaries.
With a copy of the regular salary reconciliation statements, Mr. Quartey referred to monies totaling 145 million cedis that was paid Business Development Consultancy Ghana ltd and St. Anthony?s Anglican church were duly deducted from his salary upon his clear written instructions.
