Ex-convict sent back to jail

An ex-convict has been sentenced by a Kumasi Circuit Court to serve two years in prison in hard labour over the theft of a sewing machine and 13 pieces of wax print valued at about GH¢2,000.00.

Emmanuel Osei was additionally ordered to pay a fine of GH¢240.00 or in default spend another three months in jail.

He was convicted after he pleaded guilty to charges of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Doris Amewu told the court, presided over by Mr D.W.P Amedior, that Osei was arrested on October 4, at about 0145 hours by a joint police and military team.

They were on routine patrol at Santasi in response to persistent complaints by residents in the area of harassment by thieves.

The officers saw him carrying the stolen items and upon questioning he admitted stealing them from a dressmaker’s shop.

The prosecution said the convict led them to the crime scene and he was subsequently handed over to the police at Adiebeba. The owner of the items, Ms Augustine Abawene, was later identified.

Osei confessed to serving a previous jail term over coconut theft.
