Expedite action on committee reports - Clergy

Pastor Dr. Matthew Bediako, Immediate Past Executive Secretary, General Assembly Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Silver Spring, Maryland, USA; has called on Government to expedite action on the outcomes of the several committees inaugurated to investigate financial misconduct.

He wondered why after establishing several committees to investigates corrupt deeds, no one have been found culpable for prosecution.

Pastor Dr. Bediako was speaking over the weekend during the 20th congregation of the Valley View University (VVU), which saw the graduation of 1,084 students.

He wondered why individuals who commit financial misconducts against the state were either promoted or transferred to different outfits to continue with their work.

“It seems words like accountability, transparency, integrity, honesty and truthfulness are no longer in our vocabulary; they have been erased from the minds of our people," he said.

Pastor Dr. Bediako expressed concern about the high rate of corruption that had plagued the country and called on the Government to expedite action on corrupt people in the country.

He expressed his appreciation to both current and old administrations of VVU for working to make it a true Adventist University with a class.

“Friends, if you want to create good wealth, you should not let it be ‘kalabule money’ and if you want to enjoy life, and be successful, begin aiming for excellence and integrity," he added.

Prof. Daniel Bunor, Vice Chancellor, VVU, said the University achieved the charter status in 2006 and also adjudged the Best Private University in January 2013.

Currently, the University is among the best seven of the 60 public and private universities in the country, he added.

Prof. Bunor said student enrolment had also rocketed from 6,224,000 in 2012/2013 academic year to the current 8,174,000, an increase of 31.33%.

He said between last year and this academic year, a faculty of 111 had published a total of 86 publications comprising peer-reviewed journal articles, books and book chapters.

The University is in the process of mounting new programmes including Masters of Education (Med), Bachelor of Science (BSc) Environmental Studies, Bachelor of Science (BSc) Economics, Communications studies among others, he stated.

“The proposals have been submitted to the National Accreditation Board and as soon as we receive positive report from the Board, we shall mount them," Prof Bunor added.

In all 92 students came out with First Class, 359 with Second Class Upper, 546 with Second Class Lower and 74 with Third Class.

Six students also came out with Diploma in Bio-medical Equipment Technology, one with Post-Graduate Diploma in Pastoral Ministry and six with Post-Graduate Diploma in Education.
