Extortion In Kosovo: Confusion In East Timor

After the Kosovo Wahala, which is still under investigation by GhanaHomePage team, our attention has now turned to the plight of peacekeepers in East Timor.

Information gathered by our investigators reveals there is confusion and division among Police officers currently serving on a UN mission in East Timor.

The problem is that, some have lobbied to be granted 3 months extension at the expense of others. These officers, we learnt, have stayed for 15 months and are still working tooth and nail to stay for an additional 3 months.

This has brought confusion and great division among those who couldn't work their way through and those who are now bent to even use President Kufuor for their unfair request to be granted.

Some of these officers are even due to start their retirement leave and yet, they still want to remain and perish in East Timor.

According to sources, the contingent commander, who obtained his postition through his connections at the top, is not living up to expectation and has incurred the displeasure of almost every officer. The commander is the mouthpiece of those lobbying to stay for 18 months and bent on using the staff officer at Police headquarters (name witheld till we can confirm) to achieve this.

My simple question to the IGP and the Police Council is that, is it not enough for these officers to return home after 15months? There are other competent officers in Ghana who have been waiting to go to this mission but are still on standby because of the greediness of these officers in East Timor.

Those who are to go on retirement should be released to go and pave way for those who are due for the mission. If these officers are given additional 3 months, the Kosovo issue would be a tip of the iceberg.

The IGP and the Police council are adviced to take a close look at another brewing "peacekeepers" crises.
