President Rawlings' long-standing political foe, General Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo arrived in Ghana today for a two-day official visit.
Since 1985 relations between Ghana and Togo has tooken a nose dive following a number of cross border skirmishes by Togolese dissidents aided by Ghanaian security agents.
Our correspondent James Amoak says the visit marks a watershed in relations between Ghana and Togo.
Both General Eyadema and Flt. Lt. Rawlings hijacked political power through the barel of the gun and legitimesed their mile by organising elections, while Eyadema has firmly entranched himself in the political driving seal for about 30 years, Rawlings might soon bow out after his second term ends in two years time.
Their political ally General Sani Abacha is trying to play the political game of his two military turned civilian dictators.
President Rawlings and General Eyadema are currently holding tete-a-tete talks behind closed doors at the Castle Osu.
