Eyes on the Ground: Police, soldiers double surveillance efforts on Day 3 of lockdown at Kasoa

It’s day 3 of the partial lockdown in some parts of the Greater Accra and the Ashanti Regions and in Kasoa, some deployed military and police personnel are very well ensuring the president’s orders are adhered to.

As part of Ghanaweb’s lockdown diaries, daily happenings in the various communities are captured. A visit by the team to the Kasoa community, specifically around the interchange Wednesday showed joint efforts by police and military personnel to control traffic and check that all drivers are observing the safety measures.

Barriers had been mounted on parts of the roads with men in uniform checking every car, private and commercial, to ensure they either had hand sanitisers and for commercial vehicles, that they were observing the social distancing rule.

Meanwhile, government has refuted suggestions that military persons are abusing power by unduly assaulting citizens in the name of enforcing the president’s orders.

Addressing the issue at a press briefing today, April 1, Brigadier-General A.Y Nsiah General Officer Commanding, Headquarters Southern Command said soldiers were operating without violence, assuring that perpetrators of some violent acts have since been accosted and withdrawn from the operation.
