The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has allayed fears of the public over a supposed fake Malta Guinness on sale at various beverages outlets in the country.
It disclosed that both products are genuine were imported into the country and registered by two companies indicating “ Reference to comments on social media about Malta Guinness cans, we would like to state that Malta Guinness is a premium brand from Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL), a subsidiary of Diageo PLC which operates in over 180 countries over the world.”
“Both cans trending on social media are genuine Malta Guinness products, brewed in our sister company in Nigeria and a Licensed Brewer in Togo. We’re now in our third decade of brewing Ghana’s most loved Malt right here in Ghana,” it said.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, Delese A.A Darko in a statement appealed to the public to ignore images circulating on social media that there are fake Malta Guinness explaining that the two products were imported into the country by two different companies; Guinness Breweries Ghana Limited and Addra Sari Limited
The former imported the product from Nigeria, whereas the latter imported it from Togo. However, the two brands are registered by the FDA.
