Reports say that the proprietor of Nkosuo FM, one of the new local radio stations in Kumasi, Mr Boakye Baafi, was, on Wednesday, April 19, arrested and detained at the Manhyia Police Station for allegedly pulling out a pistol and threatening to shoot two employees of Otec FM.
According to the reports, but for the swift and brave intervention of a number of the workers of Otec FM, who managed to disarm him, Mr Baafi would have pumped bullets into Charles Kano and Kwabena Amankwa, technicians of Otec FM, since his gun was allegedly fully loaded with bullets.
Although a source at the Manhyia Police Station confirmed the story to the paper, it reserved further comments. However, in an interview last Thursday, May 20, Kano and Amankwa explained that Baafi then made an advance payment of ?4 million, and went into an agreement with the technicians to pay the balance upon the completion of the work.
?But we warned him that we would not activate and Tuesday, April 18, they tampered with the transmission system of Nkusuo FM station when they finished with their job, and their remaining amount not paid the, thus incapacitating the operational effectiveness of the station.
Peeved by their conduct, the technicians told the paper that in the circumstances, Mr Baafi on Wednesday, April 19, armed himself with a pistol and raided the premises of Otec FM, demanding the technicians to face the consequences of their actions.
According to them, when the alarm was raised, workers of the FM station rushed out and pleaded with Mr Baafi to exercise restraints, when they managed to disarm him before they apprehended and handed him over to the Manhyia Police for the law to take its course.
In his recorded explanation to the police, the Nkosuo FM station?s proprietor denied pulling out a pistol to shoot and kill any employee of Otec FM when he was seen at the premises of the station, but admitted being in possessing a gun for his protection.
When later Daily Guide managed to reach him on his cellular phone to comment on the case, he referred the paper to the police for the true facts.
