Irate members of the Friends of Konadu Agyeman Rawlings(FONKAR) yesterday stormed the studio of Asempa FM uninvited and did not only succeed in interrupting the station’s popular late afternoon political talk show, ‘Ekosii Sen,’ with impunity, but also threatened to assault innocent guests of the station who were being interviewed by the host of the programme, Kwabena Bobie Ansah.
Their reason for invading the studio to dish-out such unthinkable hooliganism was to ensure that the host stopped interviewing his guests, Stephen Kenneth Nakujah, Richmond Bosompem Ababio and Richmond Gyabatey, who were revealing some ‘dirty secrets’ about FONKAR and their ‘superwoman’ Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
The FONKAR ‘thugs’ led by Dela Cofie, Ernest Owusu Bempah and Saint Osei, forcibly entered the studio and demanded the exit of the Asempa FM guests ostensibly to meet the rest of the gang numbering about 20, who had massed up at the main entrance of the Pyramid House, where the radio station is located. It took the intervention of the operatives of the Bureau of National Investigations, who came to the rescue of the guests, who claim they are the originators of FONKAR. They were taken to the Nima police station where they were kept safely from a possible attack. The host of the programme, who confirmed the incident to The Enquirer last night, noted that he had to restrain almost 10 members of FONKAR, all of whom had wanted to enter the studio to deal with the guests. He later allowed two of them to enter the studio to respond to the issues being raised by the guests. The originators of FONKAR virtually repeated what they had told The Enquirer about three weeks ago.
They revealed that FONKAR initially started on the social network, Facebook following which they sent Nana Konadu a proposal about it, adding that the former first lady accepted the proposal via test message she sent to them on 26th June, 2010.
The text message was read on air and also verified by the host of the programme as authentic. In fact the phone number used to send the text was confirmed as belonging to the the former first lady.
“Indeed , we are among the people he used as ground workers in her bid to become the first vice president of the NDC at the Tamale Congress last year, a position she has resigned to contest President Mills to lead the party in 2012.” “She bought us phones and credit to send text messages to delegates to vote for her during the Tamale Congress,” the FONKAR originators told the Enquirer They noted that FONKAR picked up after the Tamale Congress, after she started making her intentions clear to oust Mills as President of the country, adding that “some of us did not agree to her move, hence our decision to rally for Mills to win his second term in office.”
They also disclosed that the current face of FONKAR, including Dela Coffie and Ernest Owusu Bempa, among others, used to visit Nana Konadu for ‘chop, chop’ but eventually hijacked FONKAR to use as a campaign platform for the Former First Lady’s presidential bid.
The y also said that her target, as far as her presidential ambition was concerned, was the Vice President, John Mahama, because she was initially certain that the President will not contest.
