Accra, May 19, GNA - Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR)has appealed to sympathizers and supporters of President John Evans Atta Mills to conduct clean campaign devoid of insults and acrimony to ensure that the Party's July Congress in Sunyani was conducted peacefully.. Mr Saint Osei, Deputy Communications Director of FONKAR, addressing a press conference in Accra on Thursday, said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a democratic party that believed in the rule of law and asked those not supporting Nana Konadu's candidature to adhere to democratic principles and conduct a violence-free campaign. He said FONKAR's decision to support Nana Konadu was to elect 93a visionary leader" who had the capacity to empower the Party's grassroots supporters and could engender economic security and opportunities for the youth.
Mr Osei alleged that sympathizers, supporters and loyalists of President Mills were engaged in divisive campaign and were offering monetary inducements to some delegates to vote against their conscience and expressed the hope that Nana Konadu would emerge the winner at the Congress. He claimed that some radio stations and newspapers in connivance with some people, who claimed to be founding members of FONKAR, were attempting to cast a slur on Nana Konadu's sympathizers and supporters. Mr Osei claimed further that there was an abuse of incumbency, which he said must not be accepted in Ghanaian politics. He, therefore, appealed to delegates and supporters of the Party to be firm and to resist any form of inducement and to adhere strictly to the ideals of NDC and vote according to their conscience.
