The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) has urged stakeholders within the facility management industry to form a unified global community to ensure the adherence of standards.

A statement signed by Mr Sampson Opare-Agyemang, the President of IFMA, said the Association had pursued the development of standards in line with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) recommendations for productive global partnerships.

It said since 2012, IFMA had served as administrator on behalf of the American National Standards Institute and the United States Technical Advisory Group, playing a vital role in the development of global facility management standards.

“ISO, an independent, non-governmental organisation and developer of international voluntary consensus standards, published two standards in April 2017, that is, ISO 41011:2017, facility management vocabulary, and ISO 41012:2017, Facility management – guidance on strategic sourcing and the development of agreements,” it noted.

The statement said the organisation would engage the Ghana Standards Authority, the Legislature and other stakeholders in the country on how those global standards could be applied in the industry.

It, therefore, urged members to recognise the vital role they played in contributing to businesses worldwide.

The statement said the IFMA would observe the World Facility Management Day, a day of celebration to bring the behind-the-scenes heroes of the built environment into the limelight.

It is scheduled for May 15 and would be held on the theme; “Empowering the Facility Manager through Training to Enable Positive Experiences”.

The Day would recognise the professionals who had diligently worked to ensure the global built environment is effective, productive, sustainable, safe and healthy.
