Awutu-Beraku (C/R), Oct 12, GNA - Mr. Fredrick Yaw Asempah, a middle-aged man was on Tuesday arrested at a sand winning site at Awutu-Beraku by the police task force for allegedly posing as a revenue collector of the Gomoa District Assembly. Asempah's arrest was jointly ordered by the District Chief Executive for Gomoa and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya, Ms. Joyce Aidoo and Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam-Quaye.
The suspect was later sent to the Winneba police pending further investigations into the case.
During a brief interrogations that preceded the arrest of Mr Asempah, Mr Godfred Adusei Poku, the Accountant for Gomoa District and the DCE that the receipts book was issued to him by one of the revenue collectors of the Gomoa District Assembly whose name was not disclosed. The whole episode started when the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Mr Abbam-Quaye and the Presiding Member, Mr Kwesi Esseku, acting upon a tip-off inspected an illegally-sand winning site at the outskirt of Awutu-Beraku on Tuesday afternoon. At the site Asempah was found issuing receipts from Gomoa District Assembly to tipper truck operators who came there to buy sand from the sand winning contractor, Mr K. Amoh-Mensah.
Meanwhile, the DCE has ordered Mr Amoh-Mensah to remove all his equipment from the place until he regularises all his papers permitting him to win sand in the area with the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly before he could continue with the work.
Earlier, the Presiding Member had collected the numbers and other particulars on official waybills with inscriptions of Miners Department on them which the contractor, Mr Amoh-Mensah claimed were issued to him by the Mines Department in Accra.
