A 22-year-old man who posed as a soldier and attempted to rob a Chinese small scale miner at Himan in Prestea Huni Valley District of the Western Region was shot and killed on Thursday evening.

The deceased who was identified as Kwame Atobrah, was said to be in a military uniform when the incident occurred.

The deceased robber in the company of two other friends (at large) stormed the Chinese miner’s residence at about 9:00pm on Thursday and attempted to rob him.

Atobrah and his gang were alleged to have first opened fire upon reaching the residence of the expatriate miner, but the security personnel manning the area responded swiftly with gunshots and in the process, the deceased was killed.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the police were called, and the lifeless body of Atobrah was taken to the Prestea Government Hospital morgue.

Eyewitness account had it that the people around realised that the lights in the area had gone out at about 9:00pm and then they heard gunshots.

The people then saw about four guys in military uniforms entering the residence of the Chinese small scale miner and firing gunshots.

Some of the residents then mustered courage and called the police but before the peace officers arrived, one of the robbers had been shot in the face and was dead.

Some of the people alleged that they knew the guys to be ‘wee’ smokers and not military men and wondered where they got the uniforms from.

They suspected that the robbers might have been hired by some of the workers of the Chinese who had plotted to attack or kill the miner.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted Supt Timothy Dassah, Prestea Huni Valley District Police Commander, he confirmed the story but could not give details, explaining that he was a little busy.
