Last Friday, May 27, will forever remain a sad day in the minds of parents of a one and a half-year-old baby, as their child never walked back into their warm hands after close of school.

The baby met her untimely death while in school in a manner that shocked the teaching staff of the Globen School at Tabora near Abeka Lapaz in Accra.

The incident happened when the innocent child suffocated after a mattress that was leaning on a wall of her classroom fell on her.

Her teacher who was said to be feeding other children at the time of the incident, failed to notice the child’s predicament on time leaving the victim to endure the pain of having to breathe with great difficulty leading to her passing out.

When her teacher’s attention was drawn to her, she swiftly moved in to rescue her and rushed her to the Lapaz Community Hospital, but their efforts were in vain as the little girl was pronounced dead on arrival.

Tesano District Police Commander, DSP Edward Tetteh who confirmed the incident stated that two teachers of the school have so far been picked up to assist in investigating the unfortunate incident.

He said they have been charged with negligence and abandonment of child.

DSP Edward Tetteh further added that the proprietor of the school who is currently abroad has also been invited to Ghana for questioning.
