Falling wall traps housewife, 47, to death

Ekwamase (C/R), Oct. 22, GNA - A 47 year old housewife was trapped to death when a number of buildings collapsed following three-days of torrential rain at Ekwamase in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District at the weekend.

About 15 mud-houses collapsed and several others were severely damaged displacing more than 100 persons. A falling wall trapped the dead, Madam Esi Bronya, wife of the linguist Nana Kwesi Gyan. She died at the Central Regional Hospital at Cape Coast.

Nana Nketiah Afful, Abontsindomhene of Abeadze traditional area told Ghana News Agency that the displaced persons were putting up with friends and relatives in and outside the town.

Nana Araba Mpagu, Odikro, described the incident as the worst disaster ever to hit the town.

Miss Eva Afful, Assembly member for the area appealed for relief items to mitigate the effect of the disaster.

She appealed to the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly to provide the victims with materials and artisans to assist them to reconstruct their houses.
