The family of Dodzie Alegbe, the mobile phone dealer who was brutally assaulted by two policemen at the Railways Police station in Koforidua, are reportedly considering taking legal action against the officers involved.
The incident saw the 28-year-old victim being assaulted with bicycle tyres by the two police officers after he had been accused of stealing GHS1,600 by his employer.
The two police officers, despite initial denial of the incident, have been interdicted by the Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh.
Father of the victim, Torgbui Daniel Alegbe, speaking to reporters after a family meeting said, “If someone says we are no more interested in the case, it is not true. We were notified yesterday about the Acting IGP’s interdiction of the two police officers so if the IGP has spoken who am I to say that he should not go ahead with investigations.”
“When an elderly person speaks, it sums up everything so we will allow investigations to continue. I want to clarify that I have never said I was not interested in the case. I have met the lawyer and we will communicate our intentions to the public at a later date,” he stressed.
Mr Alegbe had earlier recounted that the police, after assaulting his son, detained him from Friday, September 27 up until Tuesday, October 1 before he was granted bail without any medical attention for injuries.
