Family of late Assuah Buah has accused the Half Assini Police of killing their relative and has, therefore, petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the cause of his death in police custody.

The late Mr Buah was charged for stealing but died in Half Assini police cells. Following his death, the angry residents of Ekpu stormed and vandalised the Half Asini Police Station. The autopsy report has revealed that the late Mr Buah was beaten to death.

Speaking to Class News, lawyer for the bereaved family, Alexander Abban, confirmed they have petitioned the IGP to investigate to unravel the truth behind the bizarre death of Mr Buah.

“The family is petitioning on two grounds. That the police were responsible for the death of their son, and they are also now trying to lay blame on the innocent inmates who were in the cell and they are trying to lie to Ghanaians that it was those inmates who beat that guy to death but it is not true,” he stated.

“We suspect strongly that it was the police that beat the young man to death... We have our evidence and when the time comes we will show it.”

According to Mr Abban, the autopsy report shows that Mr Buah was beaten to death. “So if that was the primary fact that we know, the second thing is if he was beaten to death who did it?” he quizzed.
