Fante Benevolent Society of Chicago assists Children's Ward

Cape Coast, July 17, GNA - The "Fante Benevolent Society of Chicago," on Friday donated items worth 15,000 dollars to the Children's Ward of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital.

The items include mattresses, curtains, towels, two commercial washing machines, rechargeable lamps, plastic chairs, side-desks and drip stands.

Nana Kobiwa Akwa III, Queenmother of Bosumia-Ayeldo in the Kwamanse Traditional Area, who presented the items on behalf of the Society, said the society adopted the ward in the late 1990s as part of its obligation to assist the needy back home.

Nana Akwa, also the Queenmother of the Fantes in Chicago, said the donation was in response to a request made by the ward last year. She gave the assurance that the society was ready to provide the ward with the needed facilities.

She expressed her appreciation to members of the Society, especially Mr John Otoo, the chairman, for their contributions. Mr Kwabena Gyamfi, Hospital Administrator, thanked the society for the gesture and gave the assurance that they would put the items to good use.

He appealed to other benevolent societies to come to the aid of the hospital, stressing that due to the closeness of the hospital to the sea, many of its equipment had been damaged by the sea breeze.
