Farmer, 28, charged with killing woman, 85

Tarkwa (W/R), Sept. 15, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded Kwadwo Manu, 28, a farmer at Dompoase near Wassa Akropong in prison custody for causing the death of an eighty-five-year-old woman.

His plea was not taken by the court presided over by Mr Isaac Lartey-Young. Prosecuting, Inspector Constance Addo of the Tarkwa Police said on July seven, the accused alleged that the deceased, Madam Afua Nyarkoah, was a witch and had caused the death of Yaw Atta, his brother.

Madam Nyarkoah, who had been bed-ridden for 43 years, was not related to the accused. Inspector Addo said, that day, the accused went from his house to the woman's room and gave her a sound beating after which he dragged her over a distance of about 40 metres on the gravel.

People rushed to the scene to rescue her but could not do so immediately because he was brandishing a sharp cutlass. However, the accused was over-powered and the woman was rescued and was given first aid but she died in the early hours of the following day. The body has been deposited at the Dunkwa-on-Offin Hospital for autopsy.
