Cocoa farmers at Atekyem, Aboaso and Bepoase near Sankore in the Asunafo District of Brong Ahafo have appealed to the government to re-construct the bridges over rivers Dein and Abonyere which collapsed 10 years ago. Making the appeal at a farmers rally at Atekyem, the chief of the area, Nana Kofi Sarfo, said the rehabilitation of the bridges will facilitate the transportation of farm produce to the buying centres. He said the villages have been cut off from the rest of the country following the flooding of the two rivers. Farmers from Nkawie, Dwumakrom, Kokooso Number One and Number Two are, therefore, finding it extremely difficult to travel to Sankore to cash their Akuafo cheques. Nana Kofi Sarfo regretted that large quantities of foodstuffs are also getting rotten in the bush as a result of the collapse of the bridges.
