Asamankese (E/R), Nov. 3, GNA- A farmer who assaulted, raped and stole money belonging to the victim has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment by the Asamankese Circuit court.
Cudjoe Anyakuie who pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and stealing was found guilty.
Detective Police Inspector Osei Owusu, said on October 13, the young woman who was a foodstuff seller went to Ayer Kokoso market to look for cassava to buy.
At the market, she saw Anyakuie who assured her he had a cassava farm and could supply her any quantity she needed. He therefore took her to a farm where he uprooted a head load for her.
The woman sent the head load to the roadside and when she returned, the accused asked her to accompany him to another farm for more of the foodstuff.
On the way Anyakuie threw her head pan into the bush and asked her to go for it but she refused.
The accused then requested to have sex with her but she again refused. The accused then dragged her to a place where he beat her and later had sex with her.
Anyakuie took the victim's cash amounting to 500,000 cedis and bolted. The woman who was very weak cried for help and people in the nearby farms rushed and took her to the house of the Chief of the town. The accused was arrested and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said the rape aspect of the case had been forwarded to the Attorney General's Office at Koforidua for advice.
