Farmer elopes with primary school girl

Nkoranza (B/A), Jan. 23, GNA- The police in Nkoranza District have arrested and placed in custody, a 24 year old farmer at Kranka for allegedly eloping with a primary school girl and keeping her away from the parents for five days.

Kwaku Dagati was said to have eloped with the girl on Sunday, January 13, this year, when the father, Mr Nibateero Ninteer, sent her to buy a bottle of 'Akpeteshie', a local gin and some fish for the family meal.

Mr Philip Kwabena Kyeremeh, head teacher of the girl's school told the Ghana News Agency that when school re-opened for the first term on Tuesday January 15, the father of the girl cane to the school to verify if the girl reported as they could not find her.

Mr Kyeremeh said after initial investigations they had a tip-off that the girl had been seen at Kwaku Dagati's house at Ayisofi.

When the family of the girl went to the village they were however told that Dagati had left with the girl to Bamboi in the Northern region.

Mr Kyeremeh said they followed up to Bamboi but could not trace Dagati nor the girl, but on their way back to Kranka they spotted Dagarti at Sessiman, near Nkoranza and informed the police, who followed up and arrested him.

During interrogation the suspect admitted eloping with the girl and later led the police and the parents to another farming community, Nyinase, where the girl was found.

The police are conducting the necessary investigations.
