Mankranso, (Ash), Nov. 17, GNA - A 28-year-old farmer was last Monday jailed two years by the Mankranso magistrate court for stealing 26 bunches of plantain and two sacks of cassava, all valued at 710,000 cedis at Nimfuokrom, near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District of Ashanti.
Samuel Kwasi Bediako pleaded guilty to the charge and was ordered by the court to pay for the stolen foodstuffs after serving his sentence. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Abraham Mensah told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that, Mr Daniel Osei Sarpong, the complainant once engaged the services of the accused to clear his farm.
He said on November 10, this year, the complainant went to his farm and saw that the accused had harvested 26 bunches of plantain and two sacks of cassava.
Inspector Mensah said upon seeing him, the accused fled and left the food items and so the complainant reported the case to the Mankranso police, who arrested the accused at Adugyama. He said the accused admitted stealing the foodstuffs during interrogation and was therefore, charged with the offence.
