Akim Oda (E/R), July 13, GNA - The Akim Oda magistrate Court in the Birim Central Municipality on Wednesday imposed a GH¢300 fine on Juliana Ama Koranteng, a farmer, for severing two fingers of a palm-wine tapper.
Koranteng, 51, pleaded guilty to causing harm, and would serve a 24-month jail term if he fails to pay the fine. The Court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor ordered the convict to pay an additional amount of GH¢200 to compensate the victim, Mr Sampson Adido, a resident of Atiakama Nkwanta near Akim Manso.
The Court heard that sometime in April this year, around 1300 hours, Ama went to Mr Adido's farm to harvest a bunch of plantain without Mr Adido's concern, and was confronted by the latter. The confrontation degenerated into a scuffle during which she intentionally and unlawfully caused harm to Mr Adido by using a cutlass on his right hand, thereby cutting off two fingers.
