A Duayaw-Nkwanta Circuit Court in the Tano North District of the Brong Ahafo Region presided over His Lordship Alexander Graham has convicted a 32-year-old farmer, Kwabena Yeboah to 23 years imprisonment for defiling an 11-year-old girl.

The facts of the case as presented to the court by Chief Inspector Sampson Oduro, the accused and the victim live in the same house at Dwomo, a village near Techimantia in the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region.

The victim was going to her grandfather’s house when she met brother of the accused who told her Kwabena Yeboah wanted to see her but she ignored and continued walking.

The brother who felt insulted by the conduct of the victim, dragged her to the accused person’s room where the accused forcibly had sex with her and afterwards gave her GH¢3 but warned her not to reveal her ordeal to anyone.

On reaching home the victim reported the matter to her parents who in turn lodged an official complaint with the police leading to the arrest of the suspect.

In his caution statement, he claimed the victim was his girlfriend adding that he only licked her private and never had sex as claimed.

He was found guilty of the offence after trial and accordingly jailed 23 years.

The judge in his remarks before sentencing the accused, said he took notice of an increase in such cases despite series of campaigns against such practices and also cited some instances where some of the victims die and others acquire several complications including permanent deformities.
