Farmer remanded for defilement

The Juaso Circuit Court has remanded into custody a farmer accused of defiling a 13-year old younger sister of his wife.

Godwin Ahiayikedzi, 20, pleaded guilty to the offence and would re-appear on Friday, March 23, to receive punishment.

Police Inspector Mannaseh Obimpe, told the court presided over by Mr S.K. Sarpong Appiah that the accused lives with the man and his wife, an elder sister of the victim, at Kantanso near Asankare in the Asante-Akim South District.

The victim had lived with the couple for one year after her father was struck by a strange disease which forced her mother to take him to Kubease for herbal treatment.

Ahiayikedzi’s wife travelled to Accra on Thursday, March 8, and he took advantage of her absence to sexually abuse the young girl.

The victim had complained of stomach ache and under the pretext of getting her some medicine from the drugs store to relieve her of the pain, he bought her sleeping tablets.

That sent her into deep sleep and he seized the opportunity to defile her.

When she regained consciousness, the accused warned her never to tell anybody about the incident.

The prosecution said, the girl would have none of that and informed the uncle about her ordeal.

A formal report was made to the police and he was arrested. He confessed to the crime in his caution statement.**
