Sunyani, April 22, GNA - A Sunyani Magistrate's Court presided over by Mr Albert Zoogah has remanded a 42-year-old farmer, Kwame Takyi, into prison custody for allegedly murdering his wife Amina Kramo, at Sentiso, a village at Enchi in the Western Region for ritual purposes. His plea was not taken.
Briefing newsmen on the incident in Sunyani, Police Superintendent Charles Domonban, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Crime Officer, said Takyi and Amina 32, also a farmer had for the past two and half years lived together at the village. He said Takyi told the police that at about 0600 hours on April 11 this year Amina decided to attend nature's call but fell down on her return and became unconscious. Police Superintendent Domonban said Takyi alleged shouted for assistance and Amina was sent to a private clinic in the village where she was treated and discharged. He said Amina's condition worsened at home and when she was being sent back to the clinic she died.
Police Superintendent Domonban said Takyi informed Amina's parents at Kofi Badukrom in Dormaa District in the Brong Ahafo Region about the incident and was asked to bring the corpse home for burial. He said at dawn on April 12, this year, Takyi and another suspect, now at large, arrived in the parent's village with the corpse wrapped in a piece of cloth and Takyi insisted that the corpse be buried immediately but this was rejected by the family who decided to identify the corpse before burial.
Police Superintendent Domonban said in the morning when the family removed the cloth from the corpse, they realised her panties was soaked with blood, some veins on the left leg removed and the mouth wide open. He said upon closer look at the corpse, the family realised her genitals had been removed and suspected foul play therefore, reported the matter to the police. Police Superintendent Domonban said before the police reached the house Takyi's accomplice had bolted and he was arrested. He said the police were investigating the matter while the corpse had been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
