Daniel, a father of two children and a husband, has been sentenced to jail for his inability to pay a fine of GHC360.

The young artisan was unable to afford the fine given to him by the presiding judge in his case, leading to a month-long prison term.

Daniel, in an interview with the Crime Check Foundation, shared the events that led to his incarceration.

He used aluminium roofing sheets to cover a tank he had built to prevent rainwater from entering.

He assumed the roofing sheets belonged to his aunt, who lived in the same compound, and did not ask for permission before using them.

However, the sheets belonged to someone else, and his aunt informed him that he needed to return them.

When the owner of the roofing sheets found out, he asked Daniel to pay him back. Daniel negotiated for more time to gather the funds, but when he failed to pay back the debt within a week, he was taken into police custody.

After a court hearing, the judge sentenced Daniel to one month in prison as a lesson and deterrent, despite his pleas for mercy.

As of Friday, July 5, Daniel has spent 12 days in prison, hoping for divine intervention. His wife is unaware of his arrest and situation.
