A father, Kwame Amankwah from Atwima Twedea in the Ashanti region, stormed Opemsuo Radio's Ma'sem program to seek help in recovering an eight thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢8,000) loan he extended to his daughter's former boyfriend to fund his travel abroad who subsequently left the country without repaying the loan.

According to Amankwah, the ex-boyfriend, who is identified as Kwaku, promised to marry his daughter and approached him with a request for financial assistance to cover his travel expenses.

Trusting Kwaku's intentions and future plans with his daughter, he took out a loan of GH¢8,000 and handed the money to Kwaku to support the said assignment.

However, months later, he finds himself in a dire situation as the loan providers have begun demanding repayment.

"I came here because my daughter was in a relationship with a certain man. The man told me that he had an opportunity to travel, but his money was not enough, so he asked me to get a loan for him. I took out an 8,000 cedis loan and gave it to him.

"He actually came with his father, so I handed the money over to the father. About three to four months later, I didn't know if he had travelled or not. The place where I took the loan from was asking me for the money, and I told him that I needed it back," he said.

During his appearance on the Ma'sem show, he explained that despite numerous attempts to recover the money, Kwaku only managed to repay GH¢3,000 and suggested that he should take the matter to the police.

Adding to the distress, Kwaku has since returned from his travels and ended his relationship with his daughter, leaving the family in financial and emotional turmoil.

"I chased him for a long time, and he paid 3,000 cedis and told me that I should take him to the police station because if someone owes you, you have to take it to the police station.

"I went to his father, and he gave me a time to come for the money, but when the time came, he never paid. So, I went there with my wife, and they nearly beat me up.

"When he came back from the travel, he had left my daughter. I waited for them to see if they would regret it and send the money, but they didn't. That is why I am here," he added.
