Fifteen communities in Lower Manya Krobo receive TV sets

Accra, Jan. 4, GNA - Fifteen communities in the Lower Manya Krobo District have each received 21-inch television sets in fulfilment of the commitment of President John Evans Atta Mills for information flow. Presenting the television sets on behalf of the President at the weekend, Ms Cecilia K. Akuerter, a leading member of the National Democrati= c Congress (NDC), said the government acknowledged that the nation needed to move into an information and knowledge-based economy to accelerate development.

In a statement to the Ghana News Agency, Ms Akuerter said the government in effect had identified Information Communication Technology as the driver and enabler of a sustained and co-ordinated socio-economic development.

Ms Akuerter said the government was committed to facilitating the management of the convergence of Information, Communication and Technology as a tool to promote integrated and accelerated national development within a global setting.

She said Ghana had developed and was implementing comprehensive and integrated Information Communication Technology for Accelerated Development policies. Some of the Communities which benefited include Atua Manya, Kojonya, Menekpo, Odumase, Kponmo, Kpon, Akuse and Asitey. 4 Jan. 11
